The Inspiration
To help display my skills I needed to practice my web development skills on a new project. After attending one of Brutha Eli’s shows I decided to make Brutha Eli a website. After his show we talked for a bit to catch up. Most importantly the idea of needing a website came up.
Soon after I started coding, but during the website’s development we did not communicate much. As a results I was not sure what features to include. To know what type of information might be needed I Googled different famous artist’s websites. With my research I was able to see common elements included in the professional portfolios of different artists.
Lessons Learned
In my research I noticed some portfolios had a music player that would keep playing even after redirecting to a different page. To achieve this feature I used JQuery to easily change the body text of the pages content. If a menu item was clicked the current text would by hidden. As a result the appropriate “pages” text would show.
Any time my embedded SoundCloud playlist was played, any menu item could be clicked. To help clarify the current song playing in the playlist would remain playing.
This is one of those unfinished projects where I left allot of text filled in with Lorem Ipsum text. In the future I now know to communicate more with a client to know what they want and to ensure they will be happy with a finished product.
While I did not finish this project it definitely was a learning experience. I was able to easily gain a potential client just by staying in contact. In the end my execution was not perfect. But I was able to get out of my comfort zone. As a result I was able to create something for someone I knew.
